I am black.
Like the earth mother who from sun and rain birthed
Like ochre and sienna and umber twice burned
Like the gold of the pyramids, glowing in the darkness
Like hematite unearthed, pure and unturned
I am bold.
Like the wind which knows no holds
Like the tree that stands a hundred feet tall
Like thunder, the gentle looming shadow
Like the elephant, the humble king of all
I am beautiful.
Like lightning, piercing the sky for all to see
Like the catterpillar, cocooned and awaiting my glory
Like the moon, in whose silence the waves crash and roll
Like myself, like you, like our untold story
